Whether open to the idea of channeled information or not, this book is an invaluable resource for anyone on the path of living a more consciously created life.  The first few chapters of this book explain many of the well-known concepts of the Abraham teachings, which is a good refresher for the already acquainted, and just enough for the newbie to understand.  I especially appreciated the new “canoe” metaphor that in a few words, suggests that most of us are paddling desperately upstream in our life (canoe), expending great amounts of energy in the guise of duty or responsibility.  What they say is “Nothing that you want is upstream!” (pg. 29).  By turning our canoe downstream, we align with the natural Stream of Life, and through the Law of Attraction, our personal vibration causes the rate of momentum and manifestation in the Current.  This brings us to our emotions which are the indicator of where we are out of this alignment.

The second part forms the bulk of this book, and details 33 examples of individuals in varying forms of distress – health issues/illness, relationships, weight problems, death, career, and life purpose issues, and how they can change what is happening in their life.  When I first began thumbing through this book, I wondered if the examples would be interesting and relevant if I didn’t have that particular issue.  The information presented is absolutely relevant, and applicable, as it is presented in a way that will awaken a deeper understanding of the teachings for application in one’s own life circumstances.

For readers who are new to the Hicks/Abraham information, I would suggest also reading “Ask and It is Given: Learning to Manifest Your Desires,” which in my opinion, is their magnum opus. Otherwise, “The Astonishing Power of Emotions” is a great addition to the Abraham collection of books, CD’s, DVD’s, and workshops that have been around for decades, but seem to be having a rebirth of sorts.
