The House of Pendragon, Book II: The Recruit In her follow-up to “The House of Pendragon, Book I: The Firebrand,” Debra A. Kemp delivers action and adventure as Lin, estranged daughter of King Arthur, once again returns to Camelot. As she enters the Round Table Hall, she tells her children the story of her return to Camelot after twelve years of living as an abused slave. Finding no joy in the frivolous activities her mother wants her to partake in, sewing, baking, and dressing for teas, she asks her father if she could train as a warrior, something she would surely be doing if she were his son. To her astonishment he agrees and both Lin and her father, the Pendragon, prove her worth and strength. She progresses quickly, raising to the position of eques and taking a place next to her father at the Round Table. The concept of King Arthur having a feisty daughter, a warrior, makes for an intriguing and highly entertaining twist. While this novel makes a great story on its own, it leaves many unanswered questions, leaving the reader in high anticipation for the next book(s) in the series. “The House of Pendragon, Book II: The Recruit” is a highly-recommended read, not only for those who are historical fiction fans, but for all readers who enjoy suspense, adventure, and intrigue. A warrior princess full of spunk, a sense of righteousness, a sharp temper, and undying determination; a princess Camelot will embrace. Escaping her past, however, may turn out to be more than she bargained. Is she brave enough to prevail?
