First thing I have to say is that I’m melting!  The poems are beautiful and touching, and the songs on the CD that Pasquale sent along with the book hit the core of the being. (One of the poems, “My Irish Lady,” was transformed into a song.)  How does one write a review on poetry that touches the soul in such a way?

“Poems for a Beautiful Woman by Pasquale” by Pasquale Varallo is in three parts. The first part depicts the grief over the loss of his wife, the second part emphasizes the fun and experiences Varallo encountered after dealing with the grief and started to go out and have fun.  The third part is about losing the second woman in his life, this time because of his mistakes. In this part he highlights loving her and then losing her.

I find it hard to say which poem I like the best because each one touches a different part of the soul.

In “Gray and Fat” Pasquale says:

When your hair has turned to silver
I will love you just the same
I will always call you Sweetheart
That will always be your name.

In “Houses and Men”:

A HOUSE IS
NOT A HOME
WHEN ALL
THAT CAN BE
HEARD IS THE
SOUND OF
BEING ALONE.

NO,

IT ISN’T A HOME.
IT’S JUST A HOUSE.
A DWELLING NEEDS
SOMEONE SPECIAL.
FOR A MAN,
IT NEEDS A
LOVING SPOUSE.

“Miracle” is so true:

Love happens.  It can’t be forced.
Like a poem it must be inspired.
Love is a little ordinary miracle.
Something that happens when least expected.

Varallo’s gift to touch a woman’s heart is extra-ordinary.  His gift of words depicts the understanding he has for women.  “Poems for a Beautiful Woman by Pasquale” is a book that women should have in their possession and pick up on days they want their souls touched. Reading any poem will certainly do that.  What a gift this would be for a woman in your life!
