General Awards

Three finalists will be chosen in each fiction and non-fiction category. First and second place winners will be awarded in each category. Third place will receive an honorable mention. Sometimes will allow more than one Honorable Mention depending on how close they are in scoring.

One finalist, the top score in each area, will be chosen in each regional and global category.

Each winner will receive a certificate. All certificates and awards will be dated for 2017-2018 period. Stickers are dated.

Finalists will be announced in our weekly e-mail newsletter in March 2018 and the winners will be announced within 10-14 days following the finalists. If we can possibly speed it up, we certainly will.


Specialized Awards

Aside from general awards the following awards will be presented. All books submitted will qualify and be considered for these awards. A panel of judges will make the final decision on awards.

If you are a winner of a specialized award, it must be claimed within 60 days of notification otherwise forfeited. The awards cannot be transferred into cash and must be used as is.

Children/Teens

*Reviewers Choice Award for Best Book Written/Illustrated by An Author/Illustrator Age 18 and Under

Award: $900 value. One year full-page listing on First Chapter Plus, an e-Catalog sent to librarians, book store owners and potential readers/bloggers/reviewers.  Sponsored by First Chapter Plus.

Criteria: Author must be Age 18 or under.

*Reader Views Kids Award for Best Children’s Book of the Year

Award:  $600 value. One year Full Page Listing in First Chapter Plus-Library/Book stores/Bloggers  catalog. As well, author will be interviewed for Inside Scoop Live, and the interview featured on Reader Views Kids, and, Reader Views. Sponsored by Reader Views Kids.

Criteria:  Winner will be chosen from the first place winners in the Children’s categories.

*Reader Views Kids Award for Best Teen/YA Book of the Year

Award:  $600 value. One year Full Page Listing in First Chapter Plus - Library/Book stores/Bloggers  catalog.  As well, author will be interviewed for Inside Scoop Live, and the interview featured on Reader Views Kids, and, Reader Views. Sponsored by Reader Views Kids.

Criteria:  Winner will be chosen from the first place winners in the Teen/YA categories.

*Book By Book Award for Best Children's Picture Book  
Award:  20 Second book teaser video and audio with online distribution and Feature on Reader Views Kids Home Page for a week, and Reader Views Newsletter. Author will provide artwork from the picture book.  Sponsored by Book By Book Publicity.

*Feathered Quill Be Kind To Animals Award

Award: $150 value. Book Review, interview with author, and feature on website. Sponsored by Feathered Quill Book Reviews.

Criteria: Winner will be chosen from all categories of children's/teens entries. Theme of book must display kindness to animals.

*Jewel Kats Special Needs Award 

Going to a debut children's author whose first book is a picture book or chapter book about a child overcoming a mental or physical disability. 

Criteria: Books for ages (pre-Kindergarten to age 12) to be considered.  Book can be published any time in the previous 24 months before contest date closes.
Award: $200 cash prize, Sponsored by:  Loving Healing Press


Adult

*Garcia Memorial Prize for the Best Fiction Book of the Year 

Award: Package consists of one press release written and distributed to media targets. Sponsored by Maryglenn McCombs Book Publicity.

Criteria: Winner will be chosen from all first place winners in the fiction categories.

*Reviewers Choice Best Nonfiction Book of the Year

Award: $1000 value.   One year full-page listing on First Chapter Plus, an e-Catalog sent to librarians, book store owners and potential readers/bloggers/reviewers. Sponsored by First Chapter Plus.

Criteria: Winner will be chosen from all the first place winners in the nonfiction category.

*Conversations Award for the Best Regional Book of the Year

Award: $1000 value. Winner will receive an interview on Conversations Live Radio,  advertisement in Conversations Magazine (circulation 14k yearly subscribers, and listing in Conversations Book Club.  Sponsored by Cyrus Webb, well-known Internet radio  and Mississippi WYAD 94.1 FM personality.

Criteria: Winner will be chosen from the first place winners, fiction and nonfiction, in the regional categories.

*Tyler R. Tichelaar Award for Best Historical Fiction

Criteria: Book must possess creative use of elements as well as originality of subject matter.

*Jack Eadon Award for the Best Book in Contemporary Drama

Award: $100 cash prize. Sponsored by Jack Eadon

Criteria: The characters must be vividly portrayed as those individuals who can exist side-by-side with someone living in this world now, dealing with issues of today in a dramatic fashion. The setting must be excruciatingly real.
