First of all, I am not a big protein fan. Carbs call to me, constantly. The more they call, the bigger I get. When I researched the Paleo diet, it made sense. However, most of the recipes are meat heavy and I was born intolerant to red meat. Shellfish grosses me out too. While this all sounds really negative, I have to say that I was really, really happy to see the recipes in “OMG. That’s Paleo?” by Juli Bauer. There are plenty of poultry and a few fish dishes. I also found that I can substitute chicken in many of the meat dishes whether they call for it whole or ground up.  I was excited to have a bunch of new recipes to try. In addition to delicious vegetable dishes, there are also some pretty incredible looking desserts.  

My favorites so far are the Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes (cauliflower), Sweet Potato Protein Snack, Pumpkin Granola, and Herbed Carrot Fries with Roasted Garlic Dip. Okay, these are all vegetarian, but you can still serve them with a meat or poultry dish like Pistachio Pesto Chicken Pasta. For dessert you can choose from selections such as the Coconut Bites, or the Chocolate Coffee Caramel Bars. Now I am drooling again! I swear, I started drooling over each recipe that appealed to me, which was most of them. I also thought, “OMG that looks really good!”  I can easily see where the name of the book came from.

My boyfriend and I look forward to enjoying future meals from this fabulous book. The recipes in “OMG. That’s Paleo?” by Juli Bauer, are well organized and each one has a picture that helps build on the appeal of the dish.  A newbie to the Paleo world, or someone who has been around awhile will all enjoy the refreshing change of pace that these recipes offer. I have checked out tons of Paleo recipe books and this is by far the most appealing one that I have come across.  I just wish that the calories and macro nutrients were listed. I highly recommend this cookbook and think that it will also make a great gift.  Even a non-Paleo person will enjoy most of the recipes, several of which are vegan and vegetarian.
