“The Dragon’s Harvest” begins with fast paced action in which a battle against the fascistic New Era regime continues where Jason F. Bogg’s first book in the series leaves off. The storyline is intense! Human’s from the New Way and the Aesini people from the Great Tribe work together to try to overcome attacks by the New Era. Using sungate portals to quickly move through space, the war covers a huge area of the universe. Earth is involved because one of the sungates was towed into Earth’s system so that the planet could easily be accessed.
Major Ira Bilis is the Operations Commander of the New Era regime. She is a complex individual that also has personal reasons for wanting to gain power over the others. She has no problems with resorting to brutality to get what she wants. In this case, she really wants Nelson Jones, who was formerly with the New Era but changed sides once he realized how deceptive and treacherous they were. Kidnapping Jones’ young daughter to draw him in causes his allies to assist him with trying to locate her while still engaged in the battle. Unfortunately, not everyone will emerge unscathed in this epic story.
“The Dragon’s Harvest” is the second book in the Dragon Trilogy. This story takes place almost two years after its prequel. Not having read the first book in the series, “The Devil’s Dragon,” I felt it stood well on its own. I would like to go back and read the first one, because I found this one so intriguing. I was immediately drawn in as soon as I started reading.
I really enjoyed the characters, even the unlikeable ones. The author did an exceptional job of developing the characters so that nothing about them is black or white. Their good and bad traits intersect in many places. The alien species are very interesting, especially the green furred aliens! There is also an android who develops sentience and becomes more human like. The settings are unique and vividly described in this well-built world.
I felt like this novel perfectly blends science fiction with fantasy. I highly recommend “The Dragon’s Harvest” by Jason F. Boggs as an epic sci-fi adventure and I look forward to reading the other books in this trilogy.
