“A Consequence of Greed” is Jack Eadon’s second book in the American Drama Series exploring the seven deadly sins. This title focuses on the deadly sin of greed. Marcus Ramsay is back and is all grown up and married. He is a smart business analyst that seems to be stepping on the toes of the higher-ups in the Allied Food Corporation with all his fancy computer skills. Marcus takes what appears to be a promotion and moves from Chicago, Illinois to Corsicana, Texas. After he arrives, he finds that the company is still plagued with the death of James Post, the former president of Coyote Brand Products, one of the best-selling chili brands in Texas.
While Marcus is busy with data entry dated all the way back to 1927, he realizes that the company’s bottom line has declined since right around the time of Post’s death, about twenty years ago. Earl Hickman became president after James Post died and his wife Sheila takes the roll of “first lady” of the company. Quite demanding of characters, Sheila is a very greedy woman. We learn by her crazy dreams that she just might have had a hand in the death of James Post, for the main reason of her husband taking his job and becoming the leader, providing her with all the luxury and wealth that she feels she so fittingly deserves.
Marcus Ramsay is a sensitive guy, as we learned in “Head Trip,” however his life isn’t quite the way he thought it would be as it relates to his marriage. His wife isn’t really the partner of his dreams and he quickly finds what she is really made of when they become separated by his promotion.
Eadon has certainly brought the elements of mystery and intrigue suited with well-developed characters, not to mention the consequence of being greedy. Personally I like a good balance of thoughts, scenery and dialog when I read. Too much of one or the other tends to bore me. Eadon has this balance just right. Not only is the book excellent, it has left me yearning for the next book in the American Drama Series. I eagerly wait to find out what is next is Marcus Ramsay’s life, and what lessons he has yet to learn. As this series follows Marcus from womb to tomb, it makes me wonder what will end up being the cause of his demise.
“A Consequence of Greed” by Jack Eadon really knocked my socks off! For lovers of a good mystery, this book really engaged my mind and entertained me as well. I have read “Head Trip” and now “A Consequence of Greed” and I have to say I am officially a fan! Can’t wait to see what is next from Jack Eadon!
