The second volume of “In Search of the Lost” contains a collection of poems written by Emily Jane and Jeffrey Eugene Elliott who are daughter and father. This poetry covers a variety of subjects that are reflective of life experiences. I found these poems to be very poignant. There are also a great deal of pictures included that help illustrate what the poem is about. Some of these pictures appear to be personal family photos. I felt such a connection with these writings, and I loved knowing that the authors were so closely related. I wish the personal pictures were labeled so that I could have a better understanding of for whom they were written.
A great deal of creativity went into these writings. The ideas were so varied I felt that when each author has a particular musing or experience, they reflect on it through their writings. I totally enjoyed reading “In Search of the Lost, Volume 2: Look Toward the Light!,” by Emily Jane and Jeffrey Eugene Elliott, and it made me do some own self-reflection. I also loved how the book is organized with the poems, photographs and some artistic embellishments. These touches made it seem more like something to treasure. I would have loved to see this book in a hardbound format because I felt that it would be something to be enjoyed by family members and also to be passed on.
I think that this would be a great gift for someone who enjoys poetry. A person who doesn’t have a lot of time to sit down with a thick novel will also enjoy this work because they can wander through the poetry, and put the book down when they need to without having to worry about losing their place in a story.
