Intuitive insight, a creative imagination, and meticulous research combine to insure the success of Kurt Kamm’s fourth fire fighter mystery. “Hazardous Material” is a true-to-life look into a world of outlaw motorcycle gangs, illegal methamphetamine labs, pain killer addictions, and the teams of men and women in law enforcement and firefighting dedicated to combating the devastation of violence and human brokenness they produce.
Protagonist Bucky Dawson, a firefighter with a Lancaster, California hazmat unit, battles a painkiller addiction. He is also caught up in a personal battle with the notorious Vagos outlaw motorcycle gang determined to get revenge for the death of his sister. Things get complicated when Bucky joins forces with the Sheriff’s Department and an inscrutable aerospace scientist in search for a meth lab in the Mojave Desert with the use of a Drone aircraft.
Kurt Kamm is a master at the use of descriptive techniques, whether describing the procedures of handling “hazmat” materials, Aerospace Drone aircraft, the topography, demographics, or technical data; he creates a sense that he has learned the information from actual experience or reliable research.
“Hazardous Material” is a hard hitting, action packed, novel with a message. Fact filled information and a dramatic story line provide the reader with a satisfying read and a lingering awareness into the lives of believable characters caught up in a lifestyle and subculture few understand.
