What can I say about “Buried Threads” by Kaylin McFarren? The first thing I say is AMAZING! Never judge a book by its cover…well they can’t tell me what to do! The cover of “Buried Threads” is so attractive. I love it. With 323 pages of awesomeness, this is one of the best books I have read in 2013.
When I first was asked to review this title, I noticed it was listed as Romantic Suspense and then Erotica. Now, I would not call any part of this book erotica. There are scenes of love making but they are a small part of the novel. I personally think Mystery would be a better genre listing. There are elements of romance; however, that is not the entire theme of the story.
The main are characters Rachel Lyons and Chase Cohen. Chase and Rachel are partners in business and in life. Their business is treasure hunting which they both are very good at. The most recent job is to head off to Japan in search of ancient swords. The level of danger has not been disclosed to Rachel. She finds herself on a plane sitting next to her new boss, Shinzo, a monk. During the long flight she learns of some rather unsettling work that Shinzo seems to be into. Unsure if she can actually make herself believe what he is saying, Rachel finds out just how crazy of a job she was about to become a part of.
Chase, on the other hand, seems to know what is going on and withholds information from Rachel until she arrives, finding some things out for herself. Chase is completely in love with Rachel but cannot seem to break through her shield of protection that she has up. Rachel is very insecure and has a fear of abandonment that somehow Chase has added to.
As the story progresses, the danger sets in. Little do either know that they are about to become involved with very dangerous people and will also come to know each other much better than they have over the years they have been together.
In “Buried Threads” by Kaylin McFarren, the editing is excellent and the plot thickens and moves along at the most perfect pace. The points of view change flawlessly. Adding all of the above together, this makes for a great story. Now I am going back to other books from Kaylin MacFarren to see what else she has for me. I am a huge fan and cannot wait to see what this author comes up with next!
