“Dresden Suite” by Deloris H. Netzband is a wonderful compilation of interesting and engaging short stories that tie together and feel like true stories about a small town in New England. The author does a great job of creating a cozy community that is inviting and simple, at least from the outside looking in. The short stories reveal the drama and problems of the citizens of Dresden.

This book shares stories of fictional characters connected to the small city of Dresden. It’s a college town, and most of the stories have some connection with Amberton University, whether the characters are students, professors, or related to faculty. The stories feel true because they integrate real life challenges, emotions, and victories. The relationships between couples, friends, and family are all relatable, and I really connected with each character. I particularly liked the multi-cultural perspective. The author helped me see life through the eyes of another culture, and I appreciated that perspective.

Another aspect of these stories is that they don’t wrap up in a nice package at the end, with everyone’s problems solved and happiness abounding. This is what makes the stories real. There are joyous moments and also heart breaking ones. These stories clearly show the complications of life and relationships. The characters were brought to life by the author, and it was easy for me as the reader to feel a part of each story. This book was filled with life, death, joy, sadness, loneliness, madness, love and hate.

I highly recommend “Dresden Suite” by Deloris H. Netzband to anyone interested in light reading that is relatable and compelling. I found myself captivated by each story, and enjoyed them all, even if it had a dark theme. These stories allow the reader to put him or herself in the shoes of the characters, which the reader may relate to or learn from. I will remember these stories for a long time and plan to read all I can from Ms. Netzband
