“Lyla Evans” is a paranormal romance/suspense novel by Rhea Sanchez. Lyla was thrilled when she got hired as a research analyst. Happy to be back on a payroll and receiving health benefits, she has no idea what this new job will actually entail. She also discovers that Alex St. James, her new boss, is very reclusive. To avoid being fired, she has to track him down and get him to the office. When she is finally able to meet him, she finds him very attractive, yet she also sees that there is something different about him. Alex also quickly recognizes that Lyla has some interesting gifts. Alex is a Warrior. He and his family have been born with special gifts which allow them to protect mankind from Pure Evil. Lyla is also part of this group. She finally understands why she is different.
Lyla also discovers that she is in grave danger. Someone is out to get her, and it looks like this person might be from inside the organization that is now employing her. She now has to deal with learning more about her abilities, her attraction to Alex, staying alive, and saving mankind. These new challenges bring a lot of excitement into her life. As she progresses with her training, her special gifts become stronger. She just hopes that she is strong enough to stay alive and defeat her enemies.
There is a saying about not judging a book by its cover. That definitely applies in the case of this book. The cover and the title of the book give no indication that it is a paranormal romantic suspense. I was pleasantly surprised when I started reading and discovered a well written novel with a lot of depth and action. Fast paced, I read it in one sitting! I love the author’s creative writing style and her unique ideas. Her use of romantic tension between the characters is very stimulating. She also does a great job of taking you inside their heads so you know exactly where they stand. Paranormal romance fans will love “Lyla Evans” by Rhea Sanchez, and look forward to the next book in this series. I think that this would be a great selection for a romance reader’s group!
