Bianca Harmon has everything going for her – she is a beautiful woman that looks 20 years younger than her actual age, has an adoring husband, two wonderful daughters, grandchildren, and a successful career as a real estate agent. In short, she has everything she could ever need or want in her life. So why is Bianca so unhappy? Her world changes forever when she receives a note from a co-worker about his upcoming marriage - a note that ignites a realization in her that she is in love with him! But does Bianca really love Frederick who is several years her junior and a self-proclaimed ladies’ man or is it the excitement of the forbidden fruit and wanting something you can’t have?
“The Love Trap: On My Mother’s Grave” by Vera Steppeler is an enchanting romance. It’s an easy delightful read for those times when you just want to relax and be entertained with a good book. I was a little confused by the subtitle – On My Mother’s Grave – at first I thought it must be a romance/mystery/thriller, but that is not the case and you will quickly understand the reference to the subtitle in the beginning of the book.
To say that this is an easy read certainly does not mean that it is boring – quite the contrary! There are many delicious turns to the tale and the ending is really outstanding, leaving me to think about its meaning for several days. The characters are quite loveable and interestingly enough there are no “bad guys” in the story. That is an amazing feat for a love triangle and my hats off to Steppeler. I was effortlessly able to capture the inherent character of each person through the author’s meticulous development of each. I feel that “The Love Trap” was most unique in that the story does not focus on young love as the main characters are not in the “prime” of their lives. True, the story begins with Bianca as a child, but she grows up quickly and the story becomes focused on love between people in their “golden” years. Love, no matter what your age, can be the most amazing and the most devastating feeling we can ever experience, and every single choice we make throughout our lives affects the outcome of the final chapter.
