“Easy Everyday Gluten-Free Cooking,” by Donna Washburn and Heather Butt offers 250 truly gluten-free recipes. They begin with breakfast foods and end with desserts. Also included are breads and bread machine recipes! All recipes include nutritional information and extra tips to help you make the best dish possible. Interspersed throughout the cookbook are more in-depth tips to assist you with making the meals in that section. I think that this is especially helpful for the baking section. I love that additional advice is given for using bread machines.
Without looking at the title, if you were to pick up the book, you would see a cookbook with delicious looking colorful pictures and recipes of your favorite foods, including pizza, pancakes, and muffins - foods that normally have to be avoided by the gluten intolerant. It is refreshing to see that this is not a gluten free cookbook simply because it offers recipes that don’t typically have gluten in them to begin with. This is a cookbook that has carefully altered common recipes so that they can be made without gluten. Many of the ingredients will probably be hard to find in a typical grocery store. For example, I cannot find sorghum, amaranth, quinoa or whole bean flours anywhere within a 150 mile range of my home. But, I can go online and find them on my favorite website. These recipes are doable, but they will take some extra work in finding the ingredients. Once you have them you will be set. I think that Donna Washburn & Heather Butt’s “Easy Everyday Gluten-Free Cooking” is a great resource to have in your home whether or not you are gluten intolerant because you might find yourself doing some last minute cooking for people who are. I also think it would make a great gift for someone you know that would benefit from these recipes.
