Kris the Cat by Ross Hewitt is a charming children’s picture book about a friendly but isolated cat who lived in a majestic castle with Queen Helga. He had a very important job of catching the mice that ate the grain they used to make bread. One day, he ran out to a horse-drawn cart outside the castle, arriving with the grain, having spotted a mouse on it. After catching the mouse (it took a while to find him again!), he suddenly realized the cart had driven away, and he was now lost! He must now try to find his way home, but he unexpectedly meets some friendly faces in the big countryside, who may just be who he was looking for. He soon realizes that friends and family can show up when you least expect it, which makes it all the more special.
