Brotman, CFP, is a very illuminating book that gives advice on achieving and preserving financial independence while redefining the idea of retirement. Retirement, according to Brotman, is not a celebration of finishing something in particular, but rather of reaching financial independence and ceasing to rely on a wage to survive. Additionally, he associates retirement with graduation and a turning point in life, when a new chapter full of opportunities and a plethora of options opens up. This stands in stark contrast to the common belief that retirement occurs when a person’s health is so poor that they can no longer work daily or when their abilities are too outdated to keep up with advances in their industry.
