Admittedly, I am not the best person to consult about fashion; I never had the “eye” for it, so I got excited when I saw The Innovative Guide to Fashion and Beauty: 2025 by Murielle Gagné. The author presents a series of interviews with renowned designers and artists across various categories, including fashion, hats, jewelry, leather goods, shoes, socks, high-end uniforms, and cosmetics.
Accompanied by photographs showcasing the artists’ work, the interviews inform and educate readers through the designers’ responses, offering insight into their backgrounds, interests, individual and company goals, and how their contributions benefit society temporarily and long-term. Tips and tricks throughout assist readers in achieving their fashion goals. A balanced representation of male and female designers allows for an equal-opportunity book. Emphasis is placed on environmental sustainability when creating the outfits or merchandise, providing peace of mind.
While the book’s purpose wasn’t what I initially assumed (e.g., more low-key, such as how to pair colors, putting together an outfit, accessories, etc.), it achieved its stated goal and was informative and educational. This book is multi-purpose; it can educate, inspire, be resourceful, or be a beneficial addition to the coffee table. The time, effort, and passion for creating this book are evident from page one to the end as it’s clear, organized, and colorful throughout. Gagné has been a YouTuber for the past two years with her channel @RedCallas, a beauty and fashion channel that offers tips and suggestions to assist with viewers’ daily routines to alleviate stress and uncertainty while providing options and suggestions in their place, with this passion showing clearly in the completion of her book. I enjoyed that she included other fashion categories besides clothing and jewelry, as I don’t believe these are discussed and highlighted as often in society, yet they deserve recognition.
The audience who will take the most away from The Innovative Guide to Fashion and Beauty: 2025 by Murielle Gagné will be readers in (or interested in) the fashion industry; however, the content is accessible and capable of appreciation by anyone. While many designers reference similar sources of inspiration, each has a unique background, allowing readers to connect with the material and imagine a new and exciting future for themselves.
