The Legend of Leanna Page: Volume One, A Beginning by Cedar Flyte is a unique fantasy story of a humble serving girl whose purpose and calling were higher than the station she was born into. The journey of Leanna Page takes us through a fantastical world filled with various creatures, political intrigue, and a love story for the ages. Along the way, we meet various characters, including the rulers of Masor, Isolda and Madrick, King Petrenair and Prince Guiomar of Pavoline, and servants Esta of Masor and Byrdon of Pavoline. The conflict between the royals of Masor and Pavoline creates a fractured world that Leanna is meant to ultimately unite, despite appearing as the least likely savior.

Unlike many epic adventure stories where you meet your central protagonist at the start, this tale does not introduce Leanna until much later. Initially, you are introduced to the royal families of Masor and Pavoline, along with their history and the complexity of their relationships. Siblings Isolda and Madrick are forced into ruling together upon the sudden death of their parents, despite how different their personalities are. King Petrenair and his son Guiomar have different views on how to run the kingdom of Pavoline, which places extra pressure on their relationship with Masor. Additionally, you have the star-crossed lovers Esta and Brydon, who serve their respective kingdoms but are drawn together by love. In the midst of these converging storylines, Leanna Page arrives as an unassuming presence that provides a sense of calm in the midst of the political tension and high emotions. She embodies the qualities that her world has forgotten and, by doing so, becomes the legend that has been told for generations to come.

I enjoyed many things about this book, including the fact that it is different than many of the books that are out there today. The language and structure of the story are uncommon, but it flows beautifully and keeps the reader engaged. Like any great fantasy, it creates vivid pictures in the reader’s mind and builds an incredible world that draws you in. The characters are also multifaceted in a way that is interesting but not overwhelming or too complex. This story also has a great way of taking you through a full spectrum of emotions, including joy, sadness, frustration, anticipation, excitement, and love. The Legend of Leanna Page by Cedar Flyte is more unique than anything I have read recently, and I highly recommend it. It would be a fantastic addition to any fantasy reader’s collection.
