When a dying father is lying on his hospital deathbed fighting cancer, he wants to leave more than just a legacy to his family in Window to Epiphany: From the Self You Know to the Self You Are by Shokrollah Nazarinafooti. He recounts that one day, months ago, changed how he saw the few months he had left to live. He remembers meeting a young gentleman who remained nameless in Hyde Park, London and that day forever changed his remaining time on earth. The man, who we believe was the Creator, told the dying man that moving forward from their meeting, he would see the world through a different lens, something only a select few would have the privilege of doing before their death. When they saw through the “window,” through their different lens, they would have an epiphany, but each person’s epiphany would be different for them. Did their father have the privilege to see through the window to his epiphany?
There is something deep within this story that will have readers contemplating their journey in life. No doubt they will wonder if they too will be able to see through their window to experience their own epiphany before their time on Earth ends. This isn’t a story to be read and taken lightly. Each page, as it progresses, will have readers not only hoping the nameless dying man will have his epiphany, but that they too will be open to seeing their own epiphany before their time ends.
I was a bit bothered that the dying man, who was such an integral part of this story, wasn’t even given a name to represent him. Since this story was focused on him and his journey of whether he had his epiphany before dying, I felt that he should have been given the respect of a name to represent him. However, it is likely intentional, as the man represents a sort of “every man” and should therefore not be represented by a name that might suggest a certain race or religion. As for the gentleman he met in Hyde Park, he also was nameless, but readers will eventually understand that he was the Creator, who goes by different names to everyone.

Overall, Window to Epiphany by Shokrollah Nazarinafooti is one novel that will have readers contemplating their own path in life. They will find themselves hoping that they will be granted the privilege of seeing life through a different lens and, in turn, reaching their own epiphany before their time on Earth has come to an end.
